The wagon creaks and groans as it rolls toward Vallaki’s gates. Where once the massive corpse of a saber-toothed cat had lain, the scorched remains of a soldier, his traumatized partner, reigns in hands, is lost in his own thoughts. Occasionally, he offers a fretful glance back at the fractured remains of the cargo box. In this cramped, remaking space quarters sitting as far as possible from the sheet covered body, Ireena, Rakthe, Krelldutt, Komzin, and Duster rest together,

The afternoon shadows stretches long across Vallaki’s cobblestone streets as Krieger makes his way through the merchant quarter back to the Burgomaster’s mansion commandeered by the Goth faction, his tread heavy with purpose. He finds Conwan throwing knives with deadly accuracy into the wooden mantle of the mansion’s parlor.  Krieger shuts the door behind himself, their conversation is best done in privacy.

Deprimer heads to the Vallaki city square in the late afternoon. His rest, though uninterrupted, has left him nearly as weary as before. He climbs to the top of the speaker’s platform and looks out over the dour faces of several hundred citizens of Vallaki. Steeling himself, Derimer asks that the citizens with the greatest need line up so that he may better know what must be done first within the Vallaki.
