What kind of kids play D&D?
The magical thing about D&D is that there's no single "type" of kid who plays—it's truly for everyone. We see shy kids who discover their voice through their characters, natural leaders who learn to share the spotlight, creative storytellers who find collaborators, and analytical strategists all thriving at the same table. D&D creates an inclusive space where different personalities and strengths all have value, and it's particularly welcoming for neurodiverse players who often find the structured creativity and clear social framework helpful for building connections and expressing themselves. The game draws together kids who enjoy creativity and collaboration while teaching these skills to those who might not think they're "creative types." At its heart, any kid who's curious about adventure, enjoys spending time with friends, or likes the idea of being a hero in their own tale will find something to love in this inclusive, collaborative storytelling experience.
What makes D&D with Dee different?
D&D with Dee brings together two decades of classroom experience with a deep understanding of how kids learn and play best. Drawing from 20 years of teaching students from pre-K through 8th grade, Dee approaches D&D through a child-led learning philosophy that puts young players at the center of their own adventure. Rather than simply guiding kids through pre-written stories, sessions focus on collaborative storytelling where players truly co-write the tales they tell, making each adventure uniquely theirs. This approach builds more than just gaming skills—it develops teamwork, communication, and confidence as players learn to support each other and work together toward shared goals. The result is an experience that feels less like being taught a game and more like being empowered to create something amazing together.
What's a D&D with Dee game session like?
D&D With Dee game sessions are collaborative storytelling adventures where your player and their fellow adventurers become heroes in an epic tale. Whether playing in-person around a table or online through platforms like Zoom or Discord, the heart of the game remains the same—they're working together to overcome challenges, solve problems, and create memorable moments. In face-to-face games, they'll roll physical dice, share snacks, and see everyone's reactions firsthand, creating that classic tabletop energy with lots of laughter and excitement. Online games offer the flexibility of connecting players from anywhere, using digital dice rollers and high resolution visuals and special effects offered by virtual tabletops while still maintaining that essential social connection through video chat. Both formats involve plenty of talking, laughing, creative problem-solving, and celebrating each other's successes. Expect a mix of planning strategies, role playing characters, making important decisions as a team, and lots of "Wait, what if we tried this instead?" moments that lead to the adventures they'll remember for years to come.
