On a wintery night in Baldur's Gate, a party of unlikely heroes gather at the Red Dragon Tavern. They meet Lula, a fallen celestial who asks for help recovering the Soul Anchor - an artifact stolen and bound for the Nine Hells. Before they can agree, Lula's traitorous plane-touched sister appears to steal their souls along with the Soul Anchor a precious artifact, which is now on its way through the nine levels of Hell to the ArchFiend himself.

Missing their souls but determined, the companions must battle every sort of infernal creature as well as other other dangers, as they journey through the Infernal plane. Their quest? To recover both their own souls as well as the Soul Anchor before it reaches Asmodeus, who would use it to claim every soul in the mortal realm.
